David Lee Vonch

April 13, 1931 — January 15, 2014

David Lee Vonch, Sr. died peacefully on January 15, 2014, at Deer Crest in Red Wing.
David was born on April, 13 1931, in Rochester, MN to Edward and Maybelle (McDonald) Vonch. He attended school in Rochester, graduating from Rochester Central in 1948. During high school he worked in the family cement business. After graduation he left the family business and had a truck sales route for Jewel T.
In 1952 he moved to Ohio and on April 3, 1952 he married Anne Lake in New Boston, OH. While in Ohio he sold Kirby vacuum cleaners, which he continued doing in Owatonna, Watertown, SD and Red Wing. The family made their home in Red Wing where he operated a Kirby vacuum cleaner and Singer sewing machine store. A few years later he became the Advertising Sales Manager for KCUE radio and had a Saturday a.m. radio show until starting in the Insurance Industry. He became an Insurance Agent for Early American Life Insurance opening an office in Red Wing, which he ran for over 50 years. During this time in his career he graduated from The College of Life Underwriters. David started climbing the ranks of the Insurance Industry, underwriting insurance for Early American Life and other insurance companies. He was a Life Time Member of the Million Dollar Round Table, named a Financial Planner in Who's Who in Business and authored many articles for insurance industry magazines.
While his family was growing he spent the summers camping and fly fishing in the Rocky Mountains. David was the ultimate outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman always chasing the elusive "Big Buck" and always catching the "Biggest Fish", be it sunfish, walleye, trout or salmon. Hunting and fishing were skills he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
David lived life big; one would never know what his next adventure was or the destination. He was an avid reader and loved to debate, be it with friends, family or foe. And he was not at all afraid to debate religion or politics.
He is survived by children, Michelle (Scott) Gruebele of Burnsville, Deborah (Chris) Barth, David (Sherri)Vonch, Jr. and Daniel (Karen) Vonch all of Red Wing; grandchildren, Laura and Katie Gruebele, Jameson Melbye, Ashley Nelson, Elizabeth Vonch, Connie Vonch, Joshua Vonch, Andrew Vonch, Janae Vonch and Katelyn Vonch; great grandchildren, Dennis Nelson, Barry Nelson, Noah Vonch and Sadie Vonch; brothers, Larry (Dorothy) Vonch of Zumbro Falls and Duane (Judy) Vonch of Fountain; brother in-law Mohammad Sadegh Golbon of Brooklyn Center, many nieces and nephews; special friend Marian Tise of Dundas and Buddy, his German short hair.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Maybelle Vonch and sister Linda (Sadegh) Golbon.
