David L. Opfer

David L. Opfer age 66 of Wanamingo died on Thursday morning, August 23, 2007 at his residence. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, August 27, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Reverend Byron Meline officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, August 26, 2007 from 2:00 ? 4:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

David Louis Opfer was born on July 10, 1941 in Red Wing to Mangel and Georgine (nee Christensen) Opfer. He grew up in Wanamingo and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1959. On June 19, 1959 he entered the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on August 30, 1962. On May 1, 1965 he married Patricia Solberg in Wanamingo. They made their home in Wanamingo and in 1966 he started working for IBM. He retired in 2004 after thirty eight years. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren and watching their sporting events, woodworking, and was an avid Vikings fan. Dave was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kasson American Legion Post #333, Quamme VFW Post #186 in Wanamingo, a lifetime member of IBM Rochester Retirees Club and a retired member of the Wanamingo Volunteer Fire Department.

Dave is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Lynn (Bill) O'Connor of Bloomington and Lisa Opfer of Eagan; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Mitchell O'Connor; and one sister, Megon (Mike) Vertanen of Bartlett, Illinois. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Mangel and Georgine; one brother, Robert Opfer; and one sister, Maren Opfer.

Honorary Bearers are members of the Wanamingo Fire & Rescue.
