David E. Nordstrom

David Eric Nordstrom, 69, of Red Wing, died Friday, February 14, 2025, at Valentines Assisted Living in Red Wing, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 16, 1955, in Fairmont, MN to Eric and Irene (Schmidt) Nordstrom. He attended St. Vianney Elementary School in Fairmont until the family moved to Red Wing in 1965. He then attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Red Wing High School in 1973. Dave started working at Randy’s Restaurant in Red Wing at the age of 16. He later managed a Randy’s in West Allies, WI, co-owned a restaurant in Rochester and managed a couple of Burger Kings in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He later worked at the Barrel House in Red Wing. When Dave was in charge of hiring, he made sure to hire the mentally and physically challenged when possible. He said they worked harder and were so much more dedicated to the job then anyone else. He fought hard to make sure they received the same pay as everyone else.

 In 1977, he was united in marriage to Kathy Jennings. They later divorced. He met Julianne Freij and they were married in 1993, and were together for 25 years when they divorced. 

Dave was proud to play the first guitar mass at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing. He enjoyed fishing and boating, but most of all enjoyed visiting and meeting people, making lifelong friends.

Dave is survived by his three siblings, Andrea Shelton of St. Paul, MN, Dianne (Larry) Madson of Spring Valley, WI and Daniel Nordstrom of MO along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery.
