David Robert Meincke, age 70, of Lake City lost his courageous battle with ALS, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at his home in Lake City, MN.
David was born May 10, 1943, son of Robert and Verona Meincke, in Red Wing, Minnesota. He grew up in the rural Red Wing area. David graduated from Goodhue High School in 1961. He farmed with his father for two years and in 1963 he started working at Red Wing Shoe.
David married Arlis Kathryn Puppe on August 8, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek. David was a Supervisor at Red Wing Shoe in Red Wing for 38 years. David also farmed from 1981 to 1995 while he worked at Red Wing Shoe. David and Arlis moved to Lake City in 2011 after being diagnosed with ALS. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing and he also served on the church board. His love for the outdoors created many flower gardens. David enjoyed snowmobiling, playing cards, camping or going to the trailer. He also loved spending time fishing and teaching his grandchildren how to fish. David is survived by his wife and loving family; Arlis ; children, Brian (Laurie) of Ramsey, MN, Cindy (Heri) Molina of Lakewood, CO, Kevin (Kristin) of Rochester, MN, and Kristin (David) Nagel of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Jordan and Dayna Meincke; Ashlyn, Brooke, and Kaitlyn Meincke; Shailee and Tyler Nagel; and one sister, Joyce (Richard) Dahling. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Meincke.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with Rev. Todd Engel officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson - Peterson Chapel Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the ALS Association or donor's choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
