David L. Marklevits

David Leon Marklevits, 85, Red Wing, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at his home at Potter Ridge. He was born January 17, 1927 in Red Wing, the son of Albert and Thelma (Bonde) Marklevits. He grew up in the Red Wing area and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving during WW II from 1944 to 1945. Following his service to his country he became seriously injured in an industrial accident in which he lost half of eight of his fingers. But that did not stop him from "enlisting" in the U. S. Postal Service in 1950. He married Janet Goldsmith on June 26, 1951 and they continued to live in Red Wing. He worked at the Red Wing Post Office as a letter carrier until his retirement in 1982 after 32 years. He also worked for several years part-time as a bus driver for Lee Lines. He was very driven by his faith in God and his belief in the Church of Jesus Christ of Lattter-Day Saints, and he was one of the original members of the Red Wing Branch in 1959, and was its first Branch President. He served in various capacities within the Church throughout his life, including serving an 18 month mission in Mexico with Janet, his loving bride and companion of 61 years. He was a devoted family man who especially enjoyed spending time with his grand kids. He was a kind, gentle man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a man whose first thought was to help anyone in need. He loved the outdoors, fishing and his time by the lake in Eau Galle and their trailer in Chippewa Falls, WI.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; three children: David Marklevits and Terry (Julie) Marklevits, all of Red Wing and Beth (Robert) Scrimshaw of Rochester; sixteen grandchildren: Ron Marklevits and Jaymie (Joe Bonilla) Marklevits; Farah (Jim Van Howe), Joshua, Katrina, Cory and Jenna Marklevits, Shannon (Trevor) Bolland, Brock (Tara) Marklevits and Phil Marklevits, Courtney (Nicholas) Lindman, Sean (Catherine), Jason, Patrick (Christina), Kendall and Carter Scrimshaw; fourteen great-grandchildren: Logan and Mason Marklevits, Jordyn Bonilla, Ella Bushey and Jaylin Marklevits, Eloise and Nora Van Howe, Ayva Marklevits, Evan, Matthew and Emma Bolland, Croix and Connor Lindman and Jade Scrimshaw; and one sister, Beverly Radke of Beldenville, Wis. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Marklevits; one grandson, Connor Scrimshaw; his parents; one sister, Shirley Schultz and one brother, John Marklevits.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Marcus Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p. m. Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
