David F. Mahoney

David Fredrick Mahoney, 72, of Red Wing, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 at the Chris Jensen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth.  He was born July 9, 1949, in Red Wing, to Felix and Edna (Mayo) Mahoney.  He graduated from Waseca Agricultural High School and briefly attended the University of MN before he began farming on the family farm with his father.  He was united in marriage to Marie Brandts in 1969, and together they farmed and had 3 children, Brian, Lisa and Angie.  They later divorced and Dave switched careers and became an insurance agent for Farm Bureau Insurance.  On August 9, 1991, he married Janet (Andrews) Lohmann. He continued working for Farm Bureau for several years until he began working as an appraiser for Schafer Appraisals, where he worked until he suffered a stroke in 2002.  Dave was very involved with the Red Wing Elks Lodge BPOE 845, having served as a PER in 1990 and was also secretary and assistant gambling manager.  He also belonged to the Leo C. Peterson American Legion 54.  Dave enjoyed playing pool, golfing and bowling. Many things in his life changed after his stroke, but his wit, gentle teasing, humor and stubbornness never faltered.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Red Wing; 3 children, Brian (Nikki) Mahoney of Red Wing, Lisa (Shane) Hoff of Silver Bay and Angie Wolf of Eagan; 5 grandchildren, Brady Wolf, Livia & Braylen Hoff and Nicholas & Jackson Mahoney; step-daughters, Leah (Dean) Adams and Mandy (Joe) Mahn both of Red Wing and step-grandchildren, Kipp & Toby Adams and Jaxon & Wallis Mahn; his siblings, Mike Mahoney, Jean Bellman and Mary (John) Shefland and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bill Bellman.

Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with a visitation one hour prior.  A live-stream of the service can be view on the Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook Page.  Memorials are preferred to the MN Elks Youth Camp.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
