David Lorenz Knudson

December 29, 1942 — November 5, 2013

David Knudson, 70, of Red Wing, was summoned by God to his eternal home on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, while recuperating from cancer surgery at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, with his family at his side.
He was born December 29, 1942, in Faribault, Minnesota and his family moved to Red Wing in 1954, where he attended Red Wing Central High School. He joined the National Guard when he was a sophomore in high school and enlisted in the Army on Sept. 15, 1960. He served as a heavy weapons infantry man and paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Unit. After 13 months in Korea, he was honorably discharged on Oct. 11, 1963 and served an additional nine years in the National Guard in Red Wing. He worked in construction and at the Red Wing Mill, Riviera Kitchens and Norwood. In 2005 he retired from the SB Foot Tanning Company, where he had worked as a security guard.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of 35 years; seven children: Scott Knudson, Dawn Knudson-Battles, Timothy Knudson, Jay Lampman, Jesica (Luke) Marshall, Jamie (Chris) Treague, Susan (Ray Walker) Knudson; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren and one brother, John Knudson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver and his mother, Gladys.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing, with military honors by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54 Honor Guard.
