David S. Jones, 91, of Red Wing, died Wednesday morning, September 4, 2019, at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing with Reverend Heidi Bolt officiating. Private family burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice or the Goodhue County Humane Society.
David was born on December 10, 1927, in Hartville, Missouri to David and Pansy (Newton) Jones. He graduated from Aldrich High School in Aldrich, Missouri in 1945. In 1950, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degrees in Education from Missouri State College. He then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952 in the Medical Company 29th Infantry. Following his discharge, he continued his education at Fuller Theological Seminary where he received a Bachelor of Divinity in 1958, a Master of Theology from North Baptist Seminary in 1963 and in 1977 a Doctor of Ministry from Southern Baptist Seminary. On May 29, 1961, he was united in marriage to Dorthy Moore in Phillipsburg, Missouri. They lived in Missouri, Nebraska and North and South Dakota where he served several churches. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing and appreciated the care and support for First United Methodist Church and First Covenant Churches both in Red Wing. He cared deeply about his family, people in general, animals and had a love for big band music.
David is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorthy; one son, John (Shawn) of California; one daughter, Ellen (Mark) Daniels of Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Taylor Daniels of Minnesota, Delaney Daniels of Wisconsin and Mick Jones of California and one nephew, Ron Page of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
