David Husbyn

David "Dave" Husbyn, 73, of Zumbrota, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Zumbrota Care Center after a sudden decline in his health.

He was born in Red Wing, MN on February 25, 1951, to Edwin and Irene (Loken) Husbyn. He graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1969.

On March 13, 1969, Dave was involved in a car accident that changed his life forever. He sustained injuries resulting in paralysis of his legs. He spent six months in St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was able to come home for weekends prior to his final dismissal. His first weekend home was for his high school graduation where he received his diploma via his wheelchair. He spent several months after graduation learning new skills. He began employment at IBM in 1970. He worked there until retiring in 2000. He continued to work for several years at Celestica in Rochester, MN.

Dave enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing in Ashby, MN. He shot pool for many years in the Zumbrota, Goodhue and Bellechester area. He shared his passion for hunting with his nephews and encouraged them to be stewards of the land. He was an excellent marksman and received many trophies at the Zumbro Valley Rifle Club where he was an active member for many years. He was also a member of Pheasant's Forever. Dave belonged to Minneola Lutheran Church.

Dave is survived by his three brothers, Dale Husbyn of Lake City, Donnie (Debbie) Husbyn of Zumbrota and Mark (Darla Jarvinen) Husbyn of Wanamingo; nieces, Amy (Jamie) Poss of Lake city, Stephanie (Allen) Pyfferoen of Kasson and Skylee Jarvinen of Wanamingo; nephews, Brady (Senna) Husbyn of Rochester and Matt (Anna) Husbyn of Rochester; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Irene; his sister-in-law, Dawn Husbyn and many aunts and uncles.

Dave's celebration of life service will be held March 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Minneola Lutheran Church, rural Goodhue. Rev. Hannah Bergstrom de Leon will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow the service at the Minneola Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Minneola Lutheran Church or the Zumbro Valley Rifle Club. The family would like to thank the Zumbrota Care Center and Seasons Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
