David Hulse

David Henry Hulse, 96, of Red Wing, Minnesota died on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at St. Crispin Living Community in Red Wing.

David was born in 1927, in Vernon, Indiana at the home of his parents, Henry and Margaret (Trapp) Hulse.

After graduating from Vernon High School at the head of his class in 1946, David entered his freshman year at the University of Minnesota in the fall. During his second year of graduate school, he met Mary Jones on a blind date. David and Mary got married in a Presbyterian Church in East St. Paul, Minnesota on September 20, 1952. They were members of the Presbyterian Church from their baptism to the present.

David began his career as an executive trainee with Montgomery Ward Company, later transferring into the financial industry. He worked with the Prudential Financing Company while living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Red Wing, Minnesota. During his career, David earned several awards and paid vacations to such locations as Nassau, Bahamas, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, and the sandy beaches of Hollywood, Florida.

In David and Mary's retirement years they enjoyed traveling, visiting countries such as Greece, Russia, Peru, Japan, China, Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland.

David loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time in his garden and fishing. David had a beautiful voice which he shared with others through singing in choirs and participating in several theater productions with the New Foggie Follies acting company which presented snazzy musical revues. David volunteered at the Sheldon Theater supporting many productions. David loved to share his knowledge with others and volunteered as a Red Wing local tour guide.

David is survived by four children, Mike Hulse, Bob (Betty) Hulse, Dan Hulse, and Rick (Christine) Hulse; eight grandchildren, Kendrick (Nick), Devyn, Liliya, Nickolas, Katy (Nick), Dylan, Aaron, and Bryan; three great-grandchildren, Gwen, Charlee, and Chance; and his brothers, Sam and Mark Hulse.

David is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hulse and brother, John Shepherd (Shep) Hulse.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing with Pastor Casey vanderBent officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Wacouta Cemetery. Arrangements are handled by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
