Dr. David B. Hallahan, 70, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Valentines. He was born on May 4, 1945, in Pipestone, Minnesota to Dr. Wilbur "Webb" and Mildred "Mickie" (Johnson) Hallahan. He lived with his family in Memphis, Tennessee for a time and later moved to Red Wing, graduating from Red Wing High school in 1963. He attended Mankato State and Brainerd Community College. He graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis in 1969. He went into practice with his father in Red Wing until 1988 when he retired due to the progression of Multiple Sclerosis. He married Marie Clabo and to this union they had two children, Todd and Tamara. They later divorced. In 1975 he married Pamela Gustafson Gardas. David enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years. He is a past member of the Lions Club and Red Wing Elks Club BPOE #845. He was a member of First Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council. He enjoyed traveling, eating out and being with family and friends. His family also recalls his love for various types of music and his artistic talent.
Survivors include his wife Pamela; his children, Todd Hallahan (Carrie Strand) and Tamara Nepstad (Travis Benway) all of Red Wing; two grandchildren, Marie and Kayla Nepstad; two aunts, Betty Jean Bruce of Woodburn, Oreg. and Eloise Hallahan of Woodland Hills, Calf. several nieces, one nephew and several cousins, one brother-in-law, Randall (Andrea) Gustafson and one sister-in-law, Kathleen (David Stone) Gustafson all of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2105 at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Arte Sharot officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Faith in Action, First Lutheran Church or Mayo Red Wing Hospice.
