David Charles Erickson, 74, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems Red Wing. He was born November 22, 1948, in Michigan to Frank and Nora (Fylling) Chapman. At the age of 9, he was adopted by Art and Lillian Erickson. They lived in Two Harbors, Minnesota and he graduated from Two Harbors High School. He primarily worked as a farrier both in Minnesota and then in Seattle, Washington, where he relocated to in 1978. On October 27, 1979, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Sorenson and they lived in Seattle for a time until returning to Minnesota, living in various places throughout the state until coming to the Goodhue/Red Wing area. David was a talented woodworker, having made cabinetry, furniture and beds, both on his own, and for a furniture company out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Kathryn passed away in 2022 and not long after his faithful canine, Shylow passed away, too. David enjoyed spending time outdoors at his daughter’s cabin where he could go 4-wheeling and be with his family and he always had a soft spot in his heart for his animals.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeannette (Rob) Erickson and step-daughter, Tanya (Jesse) Hernandez and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Steve and a sister, Teri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn and siblings, Stan, Mike and Darlene.
No formal services are being held at this time for David. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
