David B. Cary, 67, of Rochester, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 5-8 pm at the Quarry Hill Nature Center in Rochester.
Dave was born May 2, 1940 to Bradford and Margaret (Porter) Cary in Rockford, Illinois. He graduated from high school in Rockford and continued his education at Purdue University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management in 1963. Dave moved to the Houston, Texas area in the fall of 1965 to work as a programmer for the Apollo Space Project. He married Josephine Stover on May 14, 1966 in Port Washington, New York. In 1977 the family moved to Rochester, where Dave worked for IBM until his retirement in 1993. Dave loved bluegrass music, woodworking, especially woodcarving figures and was an outdoor enthusiast. He was a licensed HAM radio operator who made many contacts worldwide using Morse code and very low power.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jo; two sons, Bradford (Channing) Cary of Portland, Oregon and Neil Cary of Minneapolis and a brother, John (Barbara) Cary of Brookings, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a local animal shelter or Quarry Hill Nature Center.
