David Conklin Bierly

David Conklin Bierly, age 74, of Stewartville, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Rochester-Methodist Campus.

David was born November 5, 1946 in Endicott, NY to Albert Sr. and Wanda (Conklin) Bierly. He graduated from Rochester John Marshall High School in 1965. David was also drafted into the army that same year and served in Okinawa as a missile man in an anti-aircraft battery. He married Susan Decker on October 11, 1969 (or if you asked Dave, it was October 5th – a running joke in the family). David was employed at IBM in the print shop and retired in 1993 after 28 years. He then worked for a friend at Rochester Petroleum & Equipment to finish off his working years.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman and always seemed to know where the fish were (allegedly).  He was the best husband and father that a family could ask for.  He had a deep love for his grandson, Max, and always looked forward to spending time with him. Dave would frequently ask, “Are you Grandpa’s boy?”, to which Max would shake his head and laugh in response.

David is survived by his wife, Susan; son Tim (Anna) Bierly of Rochester, grandson Max and second grandson due in July; his mother Wanda Bierly; siblings Albert Bierly, Jr. of Rochester and Beth (G.R.) Hill, of Chandler, OK; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, Albert Sr.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 at Mahn Family Funeral Home – Rochester Chapel. There will be a livestream on the Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook page. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mayo Clinic for the excellent care David received over the years.
