Darlene "Dot" Gordon

Darlene "Dot" Adelle Gordon, 86, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born December 27, 1928, in LaMoure, North Dakota, to Stanley and Ruby (Gyldenvand) Wankel and graduated from LaMoure High School. She went on to attend Concordia College in Moorhead. On October 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Donald Gordon in LaMoure and they moved to Red Wing in 1960. Though Dot never worked outside the home, she was a caregiver and helper for many friends and family throughout the years. Donald died January 19, 1992. She was a member of United Lutheran Church where she was active in women's circles, the altar guild and had been a Sunday school teacher. She also belonged to Chapter P of PEO. She enjoyed gardening-especially flower gardening, playing cards, dancing, reading, and was an accomplished musician playing both the organ and piano. She married Virgil Burfeind on December 20, 2001. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona. She was known to cook a good plate of lutefisk for family members that would eat it. Her family will remember her love of decorating, especially at Christmas time, and the warm, welcoming environment she created.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil Burfeind of Red Wing; three children, Donene Gordon and Stan (Ann) Gordon both of Red Wing and Tim (Gail) Gordon of Plymouth; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff), Mac (Nicki), Ben (Kristen), Paul, Rebecca, Kelsey (James), Sam and Alison; 4 great-grandchildren; step-son, Keith (Marcia) Burfeind of Kimball; step grandchildren, Jamie (Randy), Kelly, and Jon (Sara); her Sandness family including her step-brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and step-brothers and sisters.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at United Lutheran Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Red Wing Hospice or United Lutheran Church. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
