Daniel J. "Danny" Liffrig, age 75, of Mazeppa died on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at his residence. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa with Father Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will be the church cemetery with Military honors provided by American Legion Post #588 of Mazeppa and VFW Post #1802 of Zumbro Falls. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Daniel Jacob Liffrig was born on October 14, 1931 in Makoti, ND to Nicholas and Barbara (nee Schafer) Liffrig. He attended school in the Mazeppa area. Following school Danny was self-employed as a milk hauler for one year. On August 12, 1952 he entered the U.S. Army. During his service he was stationed in Italy and was a driver for the platoon leader. He married Elizabeth Anne Halling on December 23, 1952 while home on leave following his basic training. After his honorable discharge they returned to Mazeppa and he worked for Botsford Lumber for two years. In 1957 Danny started working for IBM in Rochester and in 1990 he retired, after thirty three years working there. Danny enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, wood crafting, playing cards, fishing, and spending time with his six children, fourteen grandchildren and friends. Danny was Past Commander and a member of the American Legion Post #588 in Mazeppa and a member of VFW Post #1802 in Zumbro Falls. Danny was also a volunteer firefighter for the Mazeppa Volunteer Fire Department for thirty one years. Danny is survived by two daughters, Jenny (Mark) Darcy of Mazeppa and Melissa (Alan) VanDeWalker of Zumbro Falls; four sons, Michael (Pat) Liffrig and Lawrence (Denise) Liffrig both of Mazeppa, David (Janel) Liffrig of Lake City, and Steven (Anella) Liffrig of Mazeppa, fourteen grandchildren, Travis, Erin, Carrie, Callie, Nicholas, Jerome, Carl, Darcy and Damian Liffrig, Leah, Bobbi Jo and Briana Darcy, Katie Kurtti and Korey VanDeWalker and one brother, Wilfred (Helen) Liffrig of Pine Island. Danny was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Anne, seven brothers, Walter, Sylvester, Robert, Gilbert, Clifford, Leo and Raymond Liffrig and one sister, Veronica Lee. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
