Damon James Ward, 14, of Red Wing, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his home. He was born March 3, 1999, in Lake City, to Michael Ward and Meschelle Christiansen. He attended school in Lake City, and this past year, was a student at Red Wing. Damon enjoyed camping, the outdoors, dirt biking, and his beloved dog, DeeJay. He was very active in competing, training hunting dogs and had attended a weekly training class, "Jr. Handlers" at Animal Inn Training Center in Lake Elmo. Damon loved being with his family, especially his brother and sister, and going to family functions. He was a Boy Scout, Troop #94 in Lake City. He also attended First United Methodist Church in Red Wing and was a part of its youth group and confirmation class.
He is survived by his mother, Mickey (Jeff) Zimmer of Frontenac; father, Mike Ward of Red Wing; sister, Dionna Zimmer (9) and brother, Dayne Zimmer (1) both of Frontenac; maternal grandparents, Cheryl Enevold of Bay City, Roy (Mary) Christiansen of Elmwood, WI, Wallace (Mickey) Moore of Red Wing and Jerry Enevold of Bay City, WI; paternal grandparents, Keith and Rosalie Ward of Elmhurst, IL; paternal great-grandmother, Rita Butts of Plato Center, IL; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and a special family friend, Kim Cheskie of Elmhurst, IL.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Red Wing, with Reverend Greg Strunk officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2013 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing, and for one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at Bay City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Boy Scout Troop # 94 or First United Methodist Youth Group-Damon's favorite organizations.
