Dallas Henn

Dallas Henn, age 89, passed away at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Lake City early Monday morning, March 14, 2016. He was born January 28, 1927, in Mount Pleasant Township, Wabasha County to Richard and Irene Henn. He was baptized on February 13, 1927 and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church.

On December 9, 1950, he married Gloria Holst at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Goodhue, Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1951 to January 1953. He was stationed at several facilities: Atlanta General Depot in Forest Park, Georgia for basic training; Aberdeen, Maryland for Leadership Candidate School; Fort Hood, Texas, Camp Irwin in Barstow, California and Fort Lewis, Washington.

After his discharge he joined his brother, Emery, in the milk trucking business. Later his brothers, Edwin and Richard, joined the business and they acquired the livestock hauling business from their grandfather, Fred Wiebusch. He and Richard sold the business the end of 1988 and retired. In retirement he was employed by the City of Zumbro Falls as groundskeeper and as a part time bus driver for Kennedy Bus Company.

Dallas joined the Zumbro Falls Fire Department in 1956 and was elected as fire chief
In 1963, retiring in June, 1993. He was President of the Southeast Region for 10 years and then was elected as Director from Region 15 and served in that capacity for 17 years. He served as Vice President of the Minnesota State Fire Department Association from 1988 to 2003. He also served on the Minnesota Task Force for Firemanship Training for 19 years and was a member of the Certification Committee for several years. He was instrumental in writing the bylaws for the Zumbro Falls Firemen Relief Association.

Dallas was also involved with the Zumbro Falls Little League Baseball Team for 19 years and served as Wabasha County Baseball League Secretary for five years. He was a charter member of the Zumbro Falls Lions Club and received the Governor's Service Award in 2012 from the District Governor. Dallas was a life long member of Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Lake City. He has served on the Church Council as Secretary and Trustee, both for six years.

Dallas and Gloria loved to travel in retirement and traveled to 37 states, Canada, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the Panama Canal and the Inside Passage to Alaska.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandra (John) Richert of La Crosse, WI, one son, Dale (Marie) of Minneapolis and 3 grandchildren, Trevor (Maile) Richert of Swansboro, NC, Eric Richert of Minneapolis and Elisabeth Henn of Minneapolis/St Cloud, great grandson, Evan Richert, sisters Lois Grobe of Pine Island, Elaine Folkert of Rochester, Jean Henn of Lake City, brothers-in-law, Norbert Holst of Lake City, Gary (Debra) Holst of Idaho Falls, ID, sisters-in-law, Gladys (George) Johnson of Pearland, TX, June Henn of Lake City, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, Susan, his parents, three brothers, Emery, Edwin and Richard, and two sisters, Esther and Dolores.

The funeral and celebration life will be on Friday, March 18, at 11 am at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Lake City with Rev. Daniel Reich officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 4-7 pm, Thursday, March 17, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel, Lake City and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Flowers or gifts are not necessary. Please share your generosity with a stranger or offer a hand-up to someone in need. Any memorial will be directed to Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church, Zumbro Falls Fire Department or a charity of the donor's choice.
