Dale John Robinson, 88, of Red Wing, died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at his home. He was born March 2, 1919 in Stanton, Minnesota to William and Eva (Swartz) Robinson and attended school in Cannon Falls. He entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and then served in the US Army from January of 1942 until December of 1945, serving in the Caribbean and European Theater. Following his military service, he lived in St. Paul, where he worked on street cars. He married Lorraine Ryan on March 2, 1946 in West St. Paul and they moved to Red Wing in 1950. He worked for ADM in the maintenance department until retiring in 1981. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, bowling and traveling. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, Knights of Columbus, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54, Burnson Lillyblad VFW Post 1218. He had also volunteered for his church, the Legion firing squad, color guard and for the Red Cross Blood mobile.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Red Wing; six children, Diane (Bob) Coulter of Rochester, Bruce (Belinda) Robinson of Bloomington, Ill., Daniel (Candi) Robinson of Red Wing, Kathleen (Mac) McClellan of Faribault, Lori (Jim) Eppen of Red Wing and Linda (Bradley) Wipperling of Red Wing; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; two brothers, Glen and Deward Robinson; a sister, June Swanson.
Funeral Mass will be 11 am Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will Jennifer Douglas, Amy Robinson, Justin, Chad and Jerrod Eppen, Maggie, Katie and Michael McClellan, Leah and Brandon Wipperling and Erin and John Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Robinson, Kris Coulter, Kim Hayden, and Michelle Wipperling. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Legion, Knights of Columbus and Vigil services starting at 5pm. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials preferred to the church or the American Cancer Society.
