Dale "Chip" Evan Nelson, age 63, of Lake City, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, August 30, 2010. He was born February 8, 1947 in Austin, MN to Ernest & Lila (Olsen) Nelson.
Dale graduated from Austin High School in 1965. He then enlisted in the Navy in 1965 and was transferred to the medical core in the Marines. He served his last 14 months of active duty in Okinawa. Dale was discharged in 1969. He married Joyce Fisk July 13, 1968 in Adams, MN. Dale worked at Di-Acro in Lake City for 15 years and Red Wing Shoe for 15 years until retiring in 2009. Dale was an avid fisherman and he loved spending time with his family.
Dale is survived by his wife, Joyce of Lake City; two sons, Devin (Missy) Nelson of Lake City, Wesley Nelson of Steamboat Springs, CO; two grandchildren Graham and Helen; a brother, Ernest "Ernie" (Colleen) Nelson of Lake City; a sister, Garda (Dan) Leonhardt of Fort Collins, CO, mother in-law Helen Fisk of Adams, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ted Nelson and father in-law Virgil "Bird" Fisk.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the First Congregational Church in Lake City. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church.
