Dale Murray

Dale W. Murray age 56 of Pine Island died on Friday evening, February 16, 2007 at his home in Pine Island after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery with military honors provided by the combined squads of the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 and the Sons of the American Legion Post, both in Pine Island. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2007 from 4:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Dale William Murray was born on February 9, 1951 in Zumbrota, MN to Carl J. and June D. (nee Pederson) Murray. He grew up in Pine Island, attended Pine Island Schools and graduated in 1969. In 1970 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, served in Vietnam and was discharged in 1974. After his discharge he returned to Pine Island and on September 13, 1975 he married Linda K. Verthein at the Presbyterian Church in Waukon, Iowa. They made their home in Rochester for several years before moving to Pine Island. Dale worked as an estimator/purchaser for various plumbing and heating businesses and was most recently worked at DMC Plumbing and Heating in Pine Island until his health started to fail. Dale was a past commander of the Sons of the American Legion Post, a member of the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184, Pine Island Golf Course and the ?Rocky Top? band. Dale enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, singing, was an avid softball player, playing horseshoes and bean bags and was a member of pool and bowling leagues. Dale is survived by his wife, Linda, two daughters, Dana (Brad Fogarty) Murray and Megan Murray all of Pine Island, two grandsons, Parker Murray and Tucker Fogarty, six brothers, Gary (Charlotte) Murray, Rick (Diane) Murray, Carle (Ann) Murray, Brian (Laurie) Murray all of Pine Island, Mark (Myra) Murray and Dean (Naomi) Murray both of Zumbrota, six nieces, three nephews, and one great nephew. Dale was preceded in death by his parents Carl and June Murray, sister in law, Wendy Storms and father in law, Willard Verthein. Casketbearers are his brothers, Gary, Rick, Carle, Brian, Mark and Dean Murray. Honorary bearers are Randy and Amy Hayward, Earl and Lana Erdenberger, Larry and Carol Koenig, Mike and Bonnie Oelkers, Rick and Cathy Murphy, Dan and Hanna Borgschatz, Jim Carney, Bruce Miller and Mike Shelton.
