Dale Anthony Jonas, 73, of Red Wing, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 11, 2009 at his home. He was born on October 8, 1935 in Red Wing, to Rudy and Helen (Kruger) Jonas. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1953 and then served in the US Navy from March 22, 1956 to February 19, 1960. On August 20, 1960 he was married to Brenda Thuman. He worked for the Vasa Creamery, Central Research and H.L. Thumann Construction and he also established Evergreen Estates in Ellsworth. In March of 1978 he and his wife Brenda, bought Hager Heights Drive-In, which they still own and operate. He also was a funeral assistant for many years for Bodelson Funeral Home and later for Mahn Family Funeral Home. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Red Wing Elks Club BPOE #845. His family remembers his love for work and how he always enjoyed visiting with his customers at Hager Heights. He was a "people person" and had a strong work ethic. As a grandpa, he was very proud of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, his computer, playing pool, bowling and the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his wife Brenda; two children, David (Laurie) Jonas of Red Wing and Dawn (Russ) Duden of Red Wing; five grandchildren, R. J. and Kelsey Duden and Sam, Maggie and Ryan Jonas; his twin brother, Darrel (friend, Alice) of Goodhue and one sister Deloris Ringeisen of Belvidere Mills; two brother-in-laws, Don (Fran) McGinnis and Jim (Debi) Thuman; one sister-in-law, Sue (Rick) Titz, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, MaryAnn McGinnis and one brother, Robert Jonas.


Funeral will 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in the Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
