Dale R. Bothun age 71 of Mazeppa died on Friday, October 09, 2009 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2009 at 1:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dale Richard Bothun was born on November 4, 1937 in Chatfield to Eilef and Mary (nee Witte) Bothun. He grew up in Chatfield and graduated from Chosen Valley High School in Chatfield in 1956. Dale entered the United States Air Force on June 8th, 1956. On August 15, 1959 he married Leila C. Wendt in Elba Township, near St. Charles. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Washington while Dale finished his tour of duty. They returned to St. Charles in 1960 for a short time before moving to Dover. In 1961 Dale started working for IBM. They moved to Rochester in 1966 and later to the Ponderosa Supper Club area in rural Mazeppa in 1974. Dale retired from IBM in 1991 after thirty years and started working for Pemstar, retiring in 2007. Dale was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was an elder and had served as treasurer, Mazeppa Lions Club and Mazeppa Veterans Honor Guard. In his younger days he was a youth football coach and Cub Scout pack leader. He enjoyed golfing, working in his yard, tinkering in the garage and spending time with his family. Dale is survived by his daughter Tamie (and the late Douglas) Kugler of Watertown, MN; his sons: Bryon (Christine) Bothun of Winona and Brad Bothun of Kimberly, WI; his grandchildren: Shawn (Julie), Samuel, Cora, Steven, Holden, Mikaela, Teagan, Kambia and Nathaniel; four great grandchildren: Greta, Sara, Eric and Andrew, and his sister, Shirley (Orvis) Johnson of Chatfield. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Leila, son-in-law, Douglas Kugler and his siblings: Everett, Lillian, Merle, Irvin, Avis, Elroy J., Darlene, and Gerald. Bearers are his grandchildren.
