D. LaVonne Sas, a resident of Shorewood Commons in Rochester, and recently of Madonna Towers, died Tuesday May 5, 2020 at Madonna Towers at the age of 87 years. Graveside services at Ebenezer Cemetery in Leaf Valley, Minnesota will be held at a later date.
Dorothy LaVonne Froemming was born February 9, 1933 in Leaf Valley, Douglas County, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Dorothy (Schultz) Froemming. Raised in Leaf Valley, she attended the Alexandria schools and was a graduate of Alexandria High School. She married LeLand Olson, and the couple was later divorced. LaVonne lived in the Twin Cities, Mankato, and following her marriage to Wilbert Sas in 1970 she lived in Southwestern Minnesota where the couple operated a farm. Mr. & Mrs. Sas moved to Rochester in the early 1970s, and LaVonne worked as a medical secretary at Mayo Clinic for 22 years.
LaVonne was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, and she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She also sang in the choir at Shorewood Commons, and further enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble.
She is survived by her sons, Mark (Jean) Olson of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and Todd (Tina) Olson of Park Rapids, Minnesota; two step-daughters, Avis Sas of Kirkland, Washington, and Edith (Mark) Gonzalez of Anchorage, Alaska; a step-son, Willis Sas of Kirkland, Washington; three grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica) Olson, Lee Olson, and Andrew Olson; four great-grandchildren, Elliana, Ayla, Paisley, and Jaxon; step-grandchildren, Ally and Annie Gonzalez. Also surviving are her two sisters, Donna Wussow of Leaf Valley, and Nyla (David) Hodgeson of Golden Valley; and a sister-in-law, Marlene Froemming.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her two husbands, LeLand in 1985, and Wilbert in 2011; and two brothers, Jim and Kenneth Froemming.
