Cyril Anthony Huneke

Cyril Anthony Huneke, age 90, of rural Bellechester, died Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Regina Medical Center in Hastings. He was born on June 2, 1921, in Wabasha County, the son of Anton and Mathilda (nee Krick) Huneke. He attended Saint Mary's Catholic School in Bellechester and Dunwoody Institute for carpentry. He served in the United States Navy from 1945-1946 during World War II. He married Rita Manahan on October 1, 1947 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield. They farmed together in rural Bellechester. He also enjoyed working on carpentry projects. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bellechester American Legion Post and Saint Mary's Catholic Church. Cyril also served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Zumbrota and the Goodhue School Board.
Cyril is survived by his wife, Rita Huneke; six sons, Tim (Betty) Huneke of Bellechester, Jerry (Norine) Huneke of Zumbrota, Tony (Julie) Huneke of Lake City, Mark (Donna) Huneke of Zumbrota, Don (Kelly) Huneke of Zumbrota, and Chris (Claire) Huneke of Auburn, Al; five daughters, Margaret (Andy) Eggerichs of Zumbrota, Sheila (Dan) Kehren of Lake City, Irene (Chip) Norgren of Eau Claire, WI, Jane (Kenny) Lexvold of Goodhue, and Roberta (Tim) Gadient of Zumbrota; 29 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Cyril is preceded in death by two grandsons, Darrin Lexvold and Christopher Norgren; and four brothers, Norb, Lawrence, Jim, and Fred Huneke.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Bellechester American Legion Post. The visitation will be on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Casketbearers will be Steve Eggerichs, Michael Lexvold, Brandon Lexvold, Brett Huneke, Scott Huneke, and Alex Norgren. Honorary bearers will be Jason Huneke, Adam Huneke, Dustin Huneke, and Matthew Lexvold.
Memorials are preferred to the Zumbrota Area Food Shelf.
