Cynthia Smith

Cynthia Marie Smith, 51, of Red Wing, died on Saturday, September 6, 2008, at Rochester Methodist Hospital. She was born on August 1, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa to Nolen and Ruby (Patrick) Fortner. She grew up in Des Moines. She moved to Minnesota in 1991 and since 1995 lived in Red Wing. She worked as a cashier at various businesses and did child care. She enjoyed cooking, hosting parties for other people, playing cards and games. She was always willing to help others.


Survivors include three daughters, Lois (Leandrew Miller) Fortner of Red Wing, Aretha Ngene of South St. Paul and Sharon Fortner of Rochester; one sister, Lois (Jerome Adams) Fortner of Rochester; two brothers, Bruce (Patty) Fortner of Red Wing and Allen Fortner of Des Moines, Iowa and seven grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at New River Assembly of God Church in Red Wing with Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
