C.W. "Dick" Murphy

C.W. "Dick" Murphy, 95, of Red Wing, died Thursday, January 24, 2008, at his home. He was born on February 29, 1912, in Ellsworth, Wisconsin to Thomas and Mary (Langer) Murphy. He attended parochial school at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big River. On September 29, 1936, he was married to Florence Huppert at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big River. They lived in the Diamond Bluff area for many years, moving to Red Wing in 2000. From 1936 to 1961 he operated a cattle and freight trucking business. In 1962, he started C.W. Murphy Freightline, retiring in 1987. Florence died on July 6, 2005. A member of the Church of St. Joseph, he was a 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus and was also a member of the Red Wing Coin Club. He enjoyed playing cards, clipping, copying and sharing jokes, doing word search and gardening.
Survivors include ten children, Patricia (Robert) Peterson of Scottsdale, Arizona., Ralph (Joan) Murphy of Prescott, Wisconsin, Richard (Sheila) Murphy of Diamond Bluff, Wisconsin, Kathleen (Paul) Swenson of Long Prairie, Minnesota, Patrick (Marie) Murphy of Diamond Bluff, Wisconsin, Michael (Linda) Murphy of Webster, Wisconsin, JoAnn Benson of Red Wing, John (Donna) Murphy of Diamond Bluff, Wisconsin, Theresa (Michael) Tri of Diamond Bluff, Wisconsin and Brian (Carol) Murphy of Diamond Bluff, Wisconsin; 32 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and one brother, John (Mary) Murphy of Clearwater, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife; infant son; infant great granddaughter; six brothers, Leo, Edward, William, Timothy, Joseph and James Murphy and two sisters, Theresa Shannon and Helen Murphy.
Mass of the Resurrection will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Pallbearers will be Ralph, Michael, Richard, John, Patrick and Brian Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Swenson, Robert Peterson and Michael Tri. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Private burial will be on Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Prescott. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
