Curtis Willard Meyer, 85, Hager City, died Saturday at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. He was born November 8, 1920 in Bentley, North Dakota, the son of Otto and Christina (Sippert) Meyer. He graduated from Elgin High School, in Elgin, North Dakota and attended one year at Dickinson State College in Dickinson, North Dakota. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. On November 2, 1946 he married Jean Guenther in Elgin, North Dakota. They moved to Red Wing in 1948 and he worked at the Red Wing Pottery. In 1949 they moved to a farm near Hager City, Wis. For 24 years he worked for Pittsburgh Paint and Glass retiring in 1985. For a couple of years he and Jean owned and operated the Old River Store in Diamond Bluff. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Pierce County Historical Association and the Mississippi Bluffs chapter, active member of the DFL party and the Badger for Safe Energy. Being of artist nature, he enjoyed pottery work, including sculpting and painting, painted signs for people in the area and attended auctions. His family remembers him for the love he had for people and the love he gave to his family. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Hager City; six children, Frederick Meyer of Eureka Springs, Ark., Michael Meyer of Minneapolis, Christopher (Karen) Meyer of Ellsworth, Sylvia (John) Nolan of Los Fresnos, Tex., Randall (Diane) Meyer of Roseville and George Meyer of Hager City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister Arlys (Robert) Froelich of Rapid City, SD; mother-in-law, Bertha Guenther of Red Wing and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold, Bernard, and Ronald and one sister, Delores Fairley. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 10, at First Lutheran Church, Red Wing with Reverend Carroll Marohl officiating. Burial will be in Trenton Cemetery near Hager City. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Pierce County Historical Association Museum Fund or Curtis and Jean Meyer Trust Fund.
