Curtis A. Melhouse, age 81, of Kenyon, passed away peacefully at his home on August 14, 2012. He was born on June 7, 1931, in Dennison, the son of Burton and Alma (Lund) Melhouse. Curtis attended Cannon Falls schools and graduated in 1949. He served in the National Guard and was called up to active duty from January 16, 1951 to September 16, 1952 during the Korean War. On August 20, 1954 he married Donna Borgschatz at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Curtis worked for the railroad at the Union Pacific, Chicago Northwestern and the Santa Fe railroads, where he retired after working over 30 years. He enjoyed polka dancing, family, especially his grandchildren, friends, and traveling the country in motor homes. His light hearted, easy going spirit and endless smiles will be missed greatly.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna; two sons, Bradley Melhouse of Kenyon, Gary Melhouse of Owatonna; two daughters, Sandra (David) Jackson of Manlius, NY; Lisa Melhouse of Sacramento, CA; three grandchildren, Christina Melhouse, Curtis Jackson, Adam Jackson; one great-granddaughter, Layla Melhouse; two brothers, Morris Melhouse of Oronoco; Harold (Joan) Melhouse of Cannon Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Alva Melhouse.
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Pastor Paul Reppe officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
