Curtis John ?Smokey? Fitschen, 68, of Red Wing, died Friday at Fairview Seminary Home. He was born on March 7, 1938 in Red Wing to Maynard and Elizabeth (Possehl) Fitschen. He attended school in Red Wing and later joined the National Guard which he served for about 6 years. He worked at Lloyds Produce and for Art Mann before he started farming. He retired from farming due to health problems and went to work at PROACT until his death. A member of St. John?s Lutheran Church in Frontenac, he enjoyed polka music, John Deere machinery and visiting with people. Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Fitschen of Red Wing, one brother, Gary (Nanci) Fitschen of Red Wing and one sister, Kathleen (Brian) Godby of Leicester, England; two nephews; two nieces and six great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Frontenac with Rev. Christopher Hoppe officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Mesenburg, Pete Laing, Jerry Novak, Roger Grote and Bob Dohrn. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to PROACT. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
