Curtis W. "Curt" Capps, age 87, of Rochester, died Monday (Sept. 17, 2012) at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth.
Curtis Wesley Capps was born March 9, 1925 in Los Angeles, California to Clarence and Clara (Bohks) Capps. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1943 and immediately volunteered for service in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He went on to complete the Aviation Cadet program and earned his wings of silver as a Pilot. He was command pilot on a B-17 and later went on to pilot the B-29. After separation from the service he married Bettie F. Welti on March 30, 1946 in Rochester. He completed an 8,000 hour Government apprenticeship course and became a Sign and Pictorial artist. After a number of years, he went into Real Estate and earned a Professional Designation as an Appraiser. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Rochester Shrine Clown Club. Curt volunteered at the Mayo Clinic and Channel One food shelf, and was active in the Salem Road Covenant Church of Rochester.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Bobbie Miller, and Mary Ann Capps, both of Rochester; his son David (Lynda) Capps of Rochester; and four grandchildren, Christa Miller, Jeremy (Tonya) Miller, Joshua Capps, and Cheyenne Capps. His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and one hour before the service Friday, Sept. 21, at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel. The memorial service will be Friday, Sept. 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel with Rev. James Philbeck of the Rochester Assembly of God Church officiating. Private inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
