Clifford "Cliff" H. Edstrom, 83 of Pine Island, died Thursday, July 23, 2020, peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Cliff was born February 25, 1937, in Hibbing, Minnesota, the son of Edward and Sylvia (Stenback) Edstrom. He graduated from Toivola-Meadowlands High School in 1955. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country and the Corps. Cliff attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth for an education in Industrial Technology. In 1961, he moved to Pine Island, MN to join his brother Ken to open Pine Plating Company, Inc. Cliff married Dorothy Jacoby from Springfield, MN on October 22, 1966 and raised their family in Pine Island.
Cliff was very involved in the Pine Island community. He served several terms on the City Council and was elected Mayor for two terms. Cliff was a charter member of the Pine Island Jaycees and Pine Island Toastmasters Club. He proudly sang with the Rochester Male Chorus and St. Michael's Church Choir for 35 and 45 years, respectively. Cliff especially loved singing in plays, weddings, and community events. He enjoyed playing golf, camping, traveling, and hunting with family and friends. Cliff loved to spend time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Cliff is survived by his wife Dorothy; his children, Jennifer (Dale) Brandel of Cokato, MN and Mitchell (Jean) Edstrom of Cannon Falls, MN; grandchildren, Tyler Brandel, Ethan Brandel, Melinda Edstrom, and Owen Edstrom; step-grandchildren Nicole (Randy) Moe and Cory Brandel; sibling, Doris LaFreniere of Hibbing, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene and Audrey; and brother, Kenneth.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2020, at the Church of Saint Michael in Pine Island with Father Randal Kasel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Pine Island Cemetery.
