Cletus Harry Tomhave, 64, Red Wing, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at his home, surrounded by loved ones, following a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born January 20, 1943 in Red Wing, to Harry and Agnes (Banitt) Tomhave. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1961 and attended Mankato State for two years. He enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War October 20, 1964 ? October 19, 1967. On August 5, 1967 he was married to Sue Vieths in Red Wing. He worked at Red Wing Shoe Company for many years, retiring in January of 2005. Following retirement he worked part-time at Four Seasons Sports. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Red Wing Elks BPOE #845, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54, the Phantom Car Club, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He was also a retired volunteer fireman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening, playing softball and spending time with family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; two daughters, Chrissy (Jeff) Johnson of Nicollet, Minnesota and Terri (Steve) Woodland of Hager City; four grandchildren, Kevin and Alyssa Johnson and Cole and Parker Woodland; one sister, Jeanne (Chuck) Bergner of Red Wing; his step-mother, Phyllis Tomhave of Red Wing and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2007, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan and Steve Ottman, Ross Kleiner, Scott, Todd and Tony Zemke. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p. m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Fairview Red Wing Area Hospice.
