Claude Allen "Tom" Cowden, 79, of Pine Island, went to eternal rest on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 surrounded by his family at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Claude was born January 31, 1933 to Edward and Coral (Kunz) Cowden in Oronoco, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Pine Island. He was a member of Stordahl Lutheran Church of rural Zumbrota.
Claude served in the United States army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. He married Delores Fenske on July 25, 1953 in Wabash, IN where he was stationed. They had five children together and resided in the Oronoco, Elgin, and Pine Island areas.
Claude was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union for fifty-five years.
After retirement he enjoyed metal recycling and outdoor activities like hunting and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's activities including wrestling, football, and motocross.
Survivors include Delores his wife of 58 years, his children Linda (Tom) Mulholland of Plainview, Lynette (Paul) Tentis of Elgin, Charles (Connie) of Buyck, Cheryl (Todd) Jackson of Lake City, and Michelle (Todd) Kennedy of Pine Island, seventeen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Joan King and Marion King, and one brother, Paul (Irene) all of Pine Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM at Stordahl Lutheran Church of rural Zumbrota on Saturday, May 12, 2012 with Pastor Kathleen Lowery officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Mahn Funeral Home- Mahler Chapel, in Pine Island and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
