Clarence A. Knutson age 89 of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Season?s Hospice in Rochester. A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, March 5, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at Stordahl Lutheran church in rural Zumbrota with Pastor Kathleen Lowery officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2006 from 4:00 ? 7:00 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church. Clarence Arnold Knutson was born on November 6, 1916 in Roscoe Township, Goodhue Co., MN to Oscar and Lena (nee Greseth) Knutson. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In 1935 he graduated from Zumbrota High School where Clarence was an All Conference tackle on the football team. He started farming with his parents and on August 3, 1941 he married Bonabell Koelsch in Kenyon. They made their home on the Knutson family farm and farmed until retiring in 1980, the year they moved into Zumbrota. Clarence was an active member of Stordahl Lutheran Church where he served as Treasurer and Trustee on the church council. He helped organize the Stordahl Lutheran Church Cemetery Association and served as its first treasurer. He also served on the Roscoe Town Board for thirteen years and served as a 4-H Leader in Roscoe Township. Clarence always loved having his friends around, watching football, playing cards, traveling and after his retirement he took up golfing. A highlight was his hole-in-one on the third hole at the Zumbrota Golf Course. Clarence also enjoyed woodworking in his well equipped wood shop. Clarence is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughter, Connie (Duane) Tiede of Naperville, IL, four granddaughters, Kris Knutson, Jill (Mark) Hovelsrud, Lisa (Chris) Vaughan, and Julie (Jason) Winkler, four great grandchildren, Karina and Jens Hovelsrud and Britta and Tate Vaughan, and his daughter-in-law, Dee Knutson of Zumbrota. Clarence was preceded in death by his son, Charles ?Chuck? Knutson, three brothers, Stanley, Olaf and Rueben Knutson and one sister, Judith Peterson. Clarence?s last months were spent at the Zumbrota Nursing Home and his final days at Season?s Hospice in Rochester. Memorials are suggested to the Stordahl Lutheran Church Lift Fund, Zumbrota Nursing Home or Season?s Hospice.
