Clarence Kirchner

September 27, 1935 — March 18, 2014

Clarence Albert Kirchner, 78 of Red Wing, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at his home. He was born at home on September 27, 1935 in Big River, Wisconsin, son of Ernest Louis and Wilhelmina Mae (Johnson) Kirchner. He was born and raised on the family farm, attending Big River Schools. He entered the Navy August 3, 1953, serving until his honorable discharge on July 6, 1961. After his discharge, he moved back home to work the family farm. On August 17, 1955, he married Delores Ann Jablonske. Clarence then began working for Armour Meats and then for Durkee-Attwood (Dayco), where he worked as a general laborer for 48 years. During his career at Durkee-Attwood, he received many awards for safety and attendance. After retiring, he began working part time for All Creatures Veterinary Clinic as a maintenance man. Delores died January 7, 2010. Clarence liked racing stock cars, mainly serving as a mechanic and pitman. His team won many races. He was an avid hunter, which he enjoyed doing with family and friends. Smoking meats was something he really liked, and often smoked meats for others free of charge. He enjoyed birds, especially finches, and fed them year round and was overall an animal lover. In his spare time, he also enjoyed listening to country western music. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club. Clarence will be well remembered for his kind heart and extreme generosity.

Clarence is survived by his two sons Rick (Brenda) Kirchner and Dennis (Tracy) Kirchner, both of rural Red Wing; grandchildren, Rhonda, Renee, Kari, Ginger, Crystal, Lisa and Nick; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Althoff of Minneapolis, and Carol Pechacek of Florida; four brothers, Edward Kirchner of Cedar, Eugene Kirchner of Durand, WI, Gerald Kirchner of Beldenville, WI and Daniel Kirchner of San Francisco, CA. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Delores; two children Rebecca and Vicky; his parents; and two brothers, Norman and Ralph.

Mass of Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion, Post #54. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
