CLARA JEANETTE MATTSON

Clara Jeanette Mattson, 74, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born on October 17, 1932, in Nerstrand, Minnesota to Alfred and Clara (Veek) Severson. In 1937 she moved to Red Wing where she was raised by Martin and Josephine Detlie. She graduated from Red Wing High School and attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. In 1951 she married Clifford Mattson in Red Wing. She was employed by St. John's Hospital in medical records. She was a member of United Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Ruth Circle. She served in the Red Wing Area Concert Association, Minnesota Arthritis Foundation and Fairview Red Wing Auxiliary. She played violin in the Red Wing Orchestra and sang with 'those Riverside Gals" barbershop group. She enjoyed music, art work and her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Keith Mattson of New York and Glenn Mattson of Red Wing; two daughters, Yvonne (Jim) Black of Red Wing and Janine (Steve) Kokal of Rochester; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel (Oscar) Castillo of Palm Springs, California and Dorothy (Bill) Jarvey of Minneapolis; two brothers, Al (Doris) Severson of Nerstrand, Minnesota and Paul (Bitsy) Severson of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by one brother, Dale Severson and one foster sister, June Grimm

Funeral will be Friday 11 a.m. at United Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian and Jeffrey Black, Joseph Kokal, Tim Welt, Bruce Grimm and Mark Severson. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacy and Jessica Mattson, Julie Welt and Kristie Kokal. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
