Christopher B. Rodgers

October 15, 1970 — November 5, 2017

Christopher Brian Rodgers was called home to join heaven's team on Sunday November 5, 2017. He left peacefully with his family by his side. After 47 years of being the key player holding Team Rodge together, he won't be leading the team on the field next season. True to form however, Christopher knew this day was coming so he spent the last 10 years after his diagnosis of PMP (Pseudomyxoma Peritonei) conditioning his teammates/family for the field, and leaving a legacy that will carry on for many years to come.
Team Rodge's new starting pitcher is his wife June Woitas Rodgers, whom he loved more than anyone else in this world. June has been his touchstone, his True Companion (TC), which is how he signed every card since they married in 1994. They were blessed with three beautiful children and a strong marriage filled with laughter, faithfulness and love. June is the obvious choice to be called in from the bullpen, and take over on the mound for Chris. Her steady and comforting quiet presence was what kept him here for so long.
At catcher, another strong choice in Coni Rodgers, his mother. Coni caught many curveballs Chris has thrown over the years, but guided and taught him how to pitch just as many perfect games as well. Chris' parents, Coni and William Rodgers (Red Wing) not only brought Chris into this world on October 15, 1970, but were by his side day and night when he was put on the DL. Chris loved his parents dearly, and grew up witnessing the importance of a strong work ethic, family, forgiveness, and faith.
Rounding out the infield are his three amazing children; Jordan (19), Hannah (16) and Tyler (12). His children meant everything to him and were the inspiration to push through pain and find the strength to coach them in sports they all loved. They knew he was there for them, proud of them, and taught it was of utmost importance to be a good person, always.
In the outfield for solid defense we have Chris's three siblings, Shawna (Bernie) Williamson (Annandale, MN), Heather (Dave) McKenzie (St. Cloud, MN), and Matthew (Kai) Rodgers (Red Wing). Chris and his siblings had a special bond, stronger than most. They grew up in a little blue house on McKinley Ave. in North Mankato, and made it a priority to continue family camping and trips together as adults to keep strong family ties.
Rounding out the bench for Team Rodge is his grandmother Jane Rodgers (Zumbrota), 16 nieces and nephews, in-laws Ruth and Michael Woitas (Mankato), many aunts/uncles and cousins, sister and brother in laws, countless friends, Red Wing High School students/staff, innumerable kids he has mentored and coached in baseball, basketball, football and softball. He has now joined his grandparents Jack and Cecelia Deloras Chadwick, and Jack Rodgers on heaven's team.
Chris's stats: 1989 graduate from Loyola High School, 1991 AA degree from Bethany Lutheran College, 1994 BSW from MSU-Mankato, and a Master's degree from St. Mary's University in 2002. He was employed as a school social worker starting at the Goodhue County Education District and then Red Wing High School, for a total of 23 years. Chris has won awards and been recognized for many things, but he wouldn't want that to be the focus. He would say connect with people, build relationships, and do it in person. It is people, not the things that matter in life. Game on.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for the Rodgers children may be sent to the Red Wing Credit Union c/o the Rodgers Family Fund.
The visitation for Chris is on Friday, Nov. 10th 4-7pm and Saturday 9am. Mass of the Resurrection & Celebration of Life will be Saturday 10am, all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Wing. Please come ready to celebrate his life and dress in Winger purple, or any sports related clothing that you will be comfortable in. Chris would want you to be casual for his final event.
