Christopher Clay Gunderson, age 68, of Red Wing, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the St. Crispin Living Community – Care Center. He was born January 18, 1953, in Ashland, WI to Jerome and Dency (Hawes) Gunderson. His family moved to La Crosse, where he graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1971. Chris went on to attend the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse majoring in Mass Communications. During this time he was involved with various aspects of music including playing guitar and writing songs in the Hamlin Garland Band, as well as being the radio personality “Chet Jett” at the college radio station. He had an Entrepreneurial spirit, which he used to promote concerts under his company “Owl Talent Productions”. This gave him the experience to move on to Mary E. Sawyer Auditorium where he was the program manager, and later moved to Casper, WY to work at the Casper Event Center as Events Manager. He moved to Red Wing with his family in 1986. He married Barbara Collins in 1981 and they had two sons. Always known for his sense of humor, love of music, and extensive record collection. Chris was a generous and kind man that would always lend a helping hand to someone in need. He loved to walk and was known as the “Walking Guy” around town. He never missed an episode of “The Price Is Right” his favorite show. He also enjoyed trips to Treasure Island Casino with his family. Chris is survived by his two sons, Clay of Red Wing and Bryce of Rochester; brother, Gregg (Kate) Gunderson of La Crosse; sister, Kaylynn (Rich) Camp of Rancho Cordova, CA; nieces, Heather, Alicia, and Helena; nephews, C.J. and Timothy. He is preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2022 with family. Memorials are preferred to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn is handling the arrangements.
