Christian "John" Overboe, 74, of Santa Paula, California, formerly of Zumbrota, Minnesota died Monday, June 25, 2007 at the West Los Angeles Veteran's Hospital in Los Angeles, California. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the Zumbrota Cemetery with the Reverend Susan Vikstrom officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727 of Zumbrota.
Christian Overboe was born on March 12, 1933 in Rochester, Minnesota to Hans Christian Overboe and Agnes (Ullevig) Overboe. He attended school in Zumbrota. John served in the Navy from 1953 - 1957 and from 1968 - 1985. He served seven years overseas, including two years in Vietnam as a Seabee with a Construction Battalion. He also was employed for eleven years as a power plant operator with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. John was a member of the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve Association. He also enjoyed singing with several musical groups.
John is survived by his wife, Gloria Ann (Salsbury) Overboe of Santa Paula, California; a son, Michael of Villa Park, Illinois; a daughter, Celeste of New York, New York; a brother, Ellerth Overboe of Evanston, Illinois; a sister, Bonita Markstrom of Fort Collins, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret Goetsch.
Arrangements are with Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel, Zumbrota.
