Christian Alford (Al) Fjeldstad, Jr., age 87 of Lake City, passed Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Lake City Hospital. Al was born April 4, 1919, in Austin, MN, and former resident of Minneapolis, Edina, and Lake Minnetonka, he has lived in Lake City since 1968. Al attended the University of Minnesota as was a graduate of the Minnesota School of Business. During World War II he served as an Air Force officer and was recalled to duty as a squadron commander during the Korean conflict. For this he received in 2001 the Korean War Service medal, awarded on the 50th anniversary of the Korean War. He was a former sales representative of the Twin Cities branch of the Ford Motor Company and the former owner of Sandy Beach Resort, Lake Minnetonka. In Lake City he was a charter member of the Old Goats Club, served two terms (1980 & 1981) as treasurer of the Lake City Senior Citizens Organization, and was the original chairman (1983 & 1984) of the Lake City Nutrition Program for Seniors. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (Minneapolis), the Heritage Club of Luther College, Decorah, IA, Rara Avis Society of the National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club and Audubon Society. His interests over the years included fishing, traveling, attending more than 40 Elderhostel?s throughout the country, reading mystery novels, and keeping up with current events. He left bequests to the Lake City Chamber of Commerce and the Lake City Library Board. Earlier, he established a C. Alford Fjeldstad, Jr. scholarship fund for Luther Collage. Al is survived by his sister, Joan Losen, of Richmond, VA; three nephews, Stephen Losen of Charlottesville, VA, James Losen & John Losen of Richmond, VA. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C.A. Fjeldstad, Sr. of Edina. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Darren Paulson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 6 at the Mahn Family Funeral home Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church. Memorials are proffered to the Lake City Library Board or to the charity of donor?s choice. Military Honors will be performed by VFW Post #8729 and American Legion Post #110 of Lake City.
