ROCHESTER The funeral for Chia Vang will be 9:30 a.m. Monday (April 26, 2010) at the Hmong Baptist Church, 2911 18 Ave. N.W., Rochester, MN 55901. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Vang, 73, of Rochester, died Friday (April 9, 2010) at her home.
Chia was born Oct. 22, 1936 in Laos, she married Kiapao Her in 1951. In 1967 the couple worked as cooks for the Armed Forces living in Somethong, Laos, moving to Banxon, Laos in 1969. She came to the United States in 1967 living in Illinois, before moving to Des Moines, IA in 1977. She moved to Rochester on Dec. 29, 1984. Her husband died Jan. 18, 1998. She was a member of the Hmong Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her daughter Xia (Jandua) Chang of Rochester; three sons, Nhiage (True) Her of Portland, OR; Christopher (Maiyia) Herr of Rochester; and La (Canya) Her of Tacoma, WA; 25 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and her sister Yeng Vang of Laos. Three daughters, five sons, four brothers, and four sisters preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday (April 24, 2010), from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday (April 25, 2010) at Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church.
