Chester M. Menth age 90 of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2009 from 4:00 � 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Chester Mathew Menth was born on March 9, 1919 in Monticello, MN to Abner and Mary (nee Psyk) Menth. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Albertville. On December 8, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Service Company, 70th Armored Infantry Battalion, 20th Armored Division, 3rd Army under General George Patton for four years, fighting in the theatres of Germany and France during World War II. On February 12, 1946 he received his honorable discharge. On June 4, 1946 he married Belvadeen Nesler and worked with Thornton Brothers Construction Co. in Minneapolis. In 1955 Chester and Belva moved to Zumbrota, where they farmed, raised their family and enjoyed many friendships. Chester bought the local welding shop in 1965 and successfully managed this business until his retirement in 1984. Throughout his life, Chester was very active in Zumbrota community work including many years of service to Christ Lutheran Church, Zumbrota School Board and as a member and past president of the Zumbrota Lions Club and was currently a member of the Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727. Chester delighted in traveling, dancing and photography. Chester was devoted to his family. Belva died on March 29, 1988 and Chester began a new chapter in his life. On December 16, 1990 he married Nancy Post. They moved to Mesa, AZ in 1992 where Chet enjoyed the warm winters and visited Zumbrota in the summer months. They enjoyed traveling extensively and dancing, returning to live in Zumbrota in June of 2006. Chet is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Jeff (Betsy O'Berry) Menth of Ramsey, MN; daughters, Carol (Jerome0 McWaters of Las Vegas, NV, Kathy (Jim) Paulsen of Queen Creek, AZ, and Suzy (Bob) Tate of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Rebecca Nied, Rachel Karnitz, Lucas McWaters, Zachary McWaters, Caleb McWaters and Nicholas Menth; great-grandchildren, Lauren Karnitz and Brooklyn Nied; step-grandchildren, Tammy Schaefer and Chris Paulsen; step-great-grandchildren, Jordan Nied, Andrew, Matthew and Kaitlyn Qualley, Cody, Isabele and Eleanor Paulsen and Kamryn and Madeline Schaefer; brother, Harvey Menth and sister, Bernice Otten, both of Osseo, MN. Chester was preceded in death by his first wife, Belva, two infant sons, parents, and brothers, Ray and Emmett Menth.
