Chester A. McDonald

Chester A. McDonald Sr., 94, of Zumbrota, formerly of Minneapolis, died on Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Zumbrota Health Services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January, 18, 2013, at Church of the Ascension, 1723 Bryant Avenue North, Minneapolis, with Father Greg Miller officiating. Burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Chester was born on May 6, 1918, in Chatham Louisiana, to George and Nora (Zigler) McDonald. On August 10, 1940 he enlisted in the US Army. Chester served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater during WWII. He was honorably discharged on June 20, 1945. On November 15, 1950 he married Carrie J. Miles in Chicago. In 1965, they moved to Minneapolis and in October of 2008 they moved to Zumbrota.
Chester enjoyed working with his hands and making things. He was devoted to his family, and was a loving husband and father. He was a past member at Church of the Ascension in Minneapolis.

Chester is survived by his children, Carolyne Benson of Zumbrota, Anthony McDonald of Minneapolis, Yvonne McDonald of Minneapolis, Gerard (Gabi) McDonald of Michiana Shores, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Matthew Benson, Michael Benson, Anthony McDonald, Armand McDonald, Corey Knutson, Amy McDonald, Gerard McDonald Jr.; several great-grandchildren; sister, Arbelle Wimbley of Chicago, Illinois.

Chester was preceded in death by his wife Carrie who died on December 9, 2008; son, Chester McDonald Jr.; seven brothers and sisters.
