Cheryl Gustafson

March 20, 1947 — March 11, 2015

Cheryl Ann Gustafson, 67, of Red Wing, Minn., passed away March 11, 2015 in her home amongst her loving family and beloved pets, Sox and Norrie. Cheryl fought a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on March 20, 1947 in Waterloo, Iowa but eventually moved to New York, where she spent much of her younger years. While she was in New York, she obtained a degree in Liberal Arts and was on the dean's list. Cheryl was a gifted writer. She moved to Red Wing to be reunited with her family. She found her passion and fulfillment in life by caring for the numerous dogs she rescued throughout the years. She enjoyed them all immensely. She dedicated her heart and soul to creating a Facebook page entitled "A Page for Special Needs Animals' Stories." She made special bonds with likeminded animal advocates and her page acquired significant notoriety. Her dedication to this cause was acknowledged by Kayla Duffy and Lowry Mumford in their book entitled Lost Soul: Found. Cheryl also loved gardening, especially with her mother. She had a unique knowledge of wildflowers and loved going on road trips to find treasures of wildflowers and rocks.

Her gentle nature will be missed forever by all whose lives she gently touched. She is survived by four siblings; Harold (Elisha) Gustafson of Rosemont, Wesley (Sheila) Gustafson of St. Paul, Monica (Kenneth) Jackson of St. Paul and Rhonda Willard of Spring Valley, Wisc.; many nieces, nephews and friends; her beloved and loyal dog, Sox and Norrie her cat.

A special thank you to the Mayo Clinic Staff, Dr. Vicki Thomas, the chemo infusion nurses and to the entire Mayo Hospice angels that we've had the privilege to encounter. A special thank you also to hospice nurse, Candice Dirksen for guiding us through this journey with professionalism and compassion. A Celebration of Cheryl's Life will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 1 - 4 p.m. at Cheryl's home at 602 Hodgman St. in Red Wing. Friends and family are all invited to pay their respects.
