Cheri Linn Johansen, 52, of Red Wing died Saturday October 30, 2010 at her home following a short illness. She was born on August 13, 1958 in Lake Mills, Wisconsin to Willis and Betty (Krueger) Steve. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1976, and is a 1980 graduate from UW Stout College in Menomonie with a Bachelor of Science degree in child development. She lived in Lake Mills and worked at Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association in Madison. She married Mark Johansen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lake Mills on November 7, 1981. They lived in Red Wing and she worked at the YMCA, Port Authority as a Secretary, and Colvill Family Center as an Education Assistant for the preschool classes. She coached Special Olympics bowling, and track and field; she also helped with the Local Sports Management Team. She enjoyed camping, gardening, and reading in which she was a member of a book club. She was a devoted wife, mother, and great mentor for Special Olympians. Her calm and quiet demeanor brought out all the best in the athletes that she coached.
She is survived by her husband Mark, daughter Brooke, at home; her parents Willis and Betty (Krueger) Steve of Lake Mills, WI; brother Steven (Wendy) Steve of Lake Mills, WI; two nephews, Travis Steve, Chad Steve, and numerous extended family and friends.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Thursday November 4, 2010 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Barbara VonHaaren officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Wednesday November 3, 2010 at the funeral home and for one hour prior to service. Private Family burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
