Charles J. Suter, 88, of Welch, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at his home. He was born August 16, 1917 to Clemens and Katherine Suter in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended school there before entering into the U.S. Army in February of 1943. He served as a medic in the South Pacific and the Philippines during WWII until he was honorably discharged in December of 1945. Following the service, he began working for the City of St. Paul Parks Department and was employed there until his retirement in 1979. He married Alberta Shepard on February 5, 1972 in Cannon Falls. He was a member of St. Joseph?s Church in Miesville, Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54 and the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW #1218. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.He is survived by his wife, Alberta of Welch; two children from his first marriage, Robert (Jean) Suter of Minneapolis and Rita Klinghut of Maplewood; 6 step-children, Marilyn (John) Gogala of South St. Paul, JoAnn (Mike) Walczak of West St. Paul, Arnold ?Butch? (Joyce) Nauer of Welch; Albert (Mary) Nauer of New Trier, Jerry Nauer of South St. Paul and Kathy Nauer of Red Wing; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a son, Roger; 3 step-daughters, Netti, Ruth Ann and Francine; 1 brother and 2 sisters.Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Miesville with Father Jay Kythe officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Boomer Carlson, Neil Draz, Everett Schroeder and John Schowalter. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the church and for one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.
