The Rev. Charles Milton Solberg, 72, of Red Wing, died Monday at his home. He was born on February 20, 1935, in Barnesville, Minnesota to Carl and Elizabeth (Landt) Solberg. He graduated from West Waterloo High School in Iowa, and then attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa graduating in 1957 and in 1962 from Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He also spent a year studying in theology in Germany and music at St. Olaf College. In 1959 he married Jane Vik in St. Paul. He served as a parish pastor in congregations at Sherman South Dakota, Des Monies, Mason City and Ames all in Iowa. Since 1988 he has served 19 congregations as interim pastor, mostly in SE Minnesota Synod of the ELCA. Survivors include his wife, Jane; four children, Martha (Stanley) Buelt of Shreveport, Louisiana, Elizabeth Gonzalez of Woodbury, Minnesota, Christopher (Jennifer) Solberg of Sioux City, Iowa and Paul (Jessica) Solberg of Minnetonka, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; three siblings and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward Landt Solberg. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church, 321 West Ave., in Red Wing. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with an 8 p.m. Vigil Service at Christ Episcopal Church. Memorials are preferred to Christ Episcopal Church or the SE Minnesota Synod of the ELCA. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing, Minnesota.
