Charles P. Schneider
Charles Paul Schneider, age 94, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the St. Crispin Living Community - Care Center. He was born on June 21, 1922 in Wabasha, MN to Edward and Martha (Gosse) Schneider. He graduated from St. Felix High School in Wabasha and then joined the Army Airforce. He was a B-25 bomber pilot in the South Pacific during World War II and flew on 72 missions. He was honorably discharged and returned to Wabasha and began working at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company where he worked for 40 years. On September 9, 1950, he married Anne "Nancy" Jacobs at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. He and Nancy moved to Red Wing in the early 1950's and then moved to Wacouta in the 1970's. He was the past commander of the American Legion, Post 50 in Wabasha and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Charles enjoyed socializing and visiting with people and found his greatest joy in the simple things in life.
Charles is survived by his children Mary (Dan) Schneider Franta of Mahtomedi, John (Fern) Schneider of Canterbury, NH; grandchildren, Casey, Morgan, Brady (Heidi) Schneider and Andrew and Roxanne Franta; and great grandchildren, Corey and Haley Schneider; sister, Clementine Merkel of Waukesha, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy on November 25, 2002; his parents; and sister, Margaret Zick.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 am on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Church of Saint Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date at St. Felix Cemetery in Wabasha. Memorials are preferred to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha.
