Charles V. Savage

Charles V. Savage, 82 Red Wing died on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at his home. Charles was born March 10, 1929, in Florence Township, the son of Charles H. and Blanche (Brock) Savage. He attended Red Wing Central High School. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until being honorably discharged in 1959. Charles was united in marriage to Patricia Wiley on September 6, 1952 at St. Mary of The Lake Catholic Church in Lake City. He began working at Meyer Industries in 1956 and continued to work there for over 30 years until his retirement in 1989. After retirement Charles began raising beef cattle at for the next 10 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Burnson-Lillyblad VFW, and the Boilermaker Union. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, and hunting, and also made Diamond Willow canes, among countless other items that were used around his home and farm.

Charles is survived by his wife, Patricia of Red Wing; children Julie (Charles) Emnett of Florence, Montana, Karen (Tim) Larson of Faribault, Minnesota, Jeanne (Cliff) Wegener of Avondale, Arizona, Robert (Jacqueline) of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Patrick of Bloomington, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Nancy Savage of Wyoming, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings Barbara Newman of Red Wing, Shirley (David) Thoms of Hager City, Evelyn (Gerald) Nelson of Missoula, Montana, Jeanette Wadewitz of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jack (Gertrud) Savage of Welch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Savage; brothers William, Philip, and Donald Savage; sisters Marjorie Wedrickas, RuthAnn Heineman, June Jablonski, and Mary Jean Goyer.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Milo Ernster presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass at church. Burial with military honors will be at Frontenac Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the ELC, Salvation Army or the Church of St. Joseph.
